Memorial Day 2011

Today is Memorial Day.  A day to remember those who are serving and have served our country.  And to thank them and more specifically thank those who made the ultimate sacrifice for our country and freedom.  There are many people in my family to thank today.  My brother, Jonathan - US Marine Corps, who is currently serving in Washington, DC.  My brother-in-law, Thomas - US Army, served overseas.  My cousins, Rob (United States Army) and Ben (US Marine Corps), both who have served overseas.  My cousin, Isaiah - US Air Force. Z's cousin, Nathan (US Marine Corps), who served as an embassy guard overseas and is currently serving stateside.  My Great-Uncle Jim Gordon- Korean Conflict.  My Grandpa Howard, United States Navy.  My Uncle John - United States Army - Vietnam.  Z's Grandpa - US Air Force - WWII stationed in Britain.  I know I have only scratched the surface, but these are the ones that came to mind.

Today's Quotography theme was Memorial/Remembrance.  This was actually fun.  I really wish I lived near a military cemetery - my first idea was a picture of all of the straight lines of graves with the flags.  But since I don't live anywhere near one, I decided to go take a picture of my grandpa's grave with his flag.  When we got there, there wasn't a flag at his grave yet.  So we got to "plant" the flag on his grave and also on my great-uncle's grave.  It was pretty cool.  A even got in on the action and helped Grandma Linda "plant" the flag on Grandpa's grave.

While we were there... she thought the bench near the family graves was pretty cool to play on - I had to post the picture.

To all those who have served, have served and died, or are serving, Thank You!  The freedom you provide is a precious gift and should be cherished.
